This is an enchanting American Brilliant Period (ABP era) cut glass One Piece Smoking Bowl made from a heavy .5" crystal blank that has a precision hand cut flat crystal rim with four scalloped grooves (cigar rests) encompassing the rim, with deeply and richly cut hob stars and stalks in a "constellation pattern" and other finely cut geometric patterns per pictures on the body of the vessel; believed to be Hawkes; but will leave identification up to experts. It is a simply stunning piece from a period when craftsmen took pride in their craft....this beautiful art piece will add elegance and sparkle to any setting! Whether for the new collector or the connoisseur, this lovely bowl will be a wonderful addition to your ABP glassware collection!!
The heavy thick bowl has a 7" diameter with a height of c. 2". The crystal bowl features a series of hand cut hobstars, stalks, diamond cut designs and other stunning patterns per images. The interlaced and cut patterns revolve around the circular hobstars, which are the focal points of the design. Around the hobstars and other designs, there are intricate angular cuts with sections of diamonds and smaller acid etched opaque linear and micro-diamond grid-like patterns. See Pictures. Pictures are part of the description.
The bowl is extremely elegant and certainly a lost art and was crafted with a high quality thick heavy crystal blank. The glass is brilliant white, which shines like diamonds in the sunlight. This bowl is not signed that I can see. It has been a family heirloom for many decades; well cared for; and utilized for display purposes only.
Condition: Excellent Antique Condition with no damage or chips to the glass that i can see. Weighs c. 2-2.5lbs. Condition: Excellent. No cracks or chips, possible fleabites noticeable upon magnification due to age, depth and sharpness of cuts. Overall in excellent well preserved antique condition. I am not an expert on ABP Pieces, but could be HC Frye in the Argo pattern, but not sure; will leave up to ABP experts. See Pictures for Pattern; Please ask any questions or request more pictures.
