RARE - New York Times Philatelic History of the United States - Volumes 1 and 2
This is a rare media collection. It portrays two hundred New York Times headlines (as well as the covers) occuring in the United States from 1851 to 1986. This collection was a collaboration between The New York Times and Postal Commemorative Society. It comes in two exquisite binders, as seen in the images, which are part of my description.
Each card stock page depicts an event in US History featuring a reproduction of the The New York Times headline and story describing each event. The stories are continued on the back side of each page.
In addition, each contains the illustrated first day cover which also depicts the event and includes the stamp related to each event as well.
The commemorative envelopes are enclosed in plastic sleeves. The postmarks were stamped by Post Office locations in or near the city in which each event took place.
PLEASE NOTE: In addition to this collection being worthy of becoming a family heirloom, it is also a unique and wonderful way to share history with friends, family and especially your children and grandchildren. There is a special significance to the impact of a headline and a newspaper story especially as presented by a renowned publication such as The New York Times. This rare collection gives you the opportunity to experience these historic events in the same way they were presented to the world when they occurred. Please remember, this collection covers events that occurred as long ago as one hundred years before television, 140 years before the internet, and many, even well before radio. Especially with the earlier headlines newspaper was the only media by which people learned of these events. With this collection, you can experience that same sensation and impact that can only be expressed by a headline.
For some reason, there are 101 headlines in one binder and 99 in the other. I am not sure if they are in their exact order but the two binders do indeed contain all 200 of them.
This collection is in immaculate condition, was acquired for its collectibility and is barely used at all. It looks like it was delivered yesterday. Please excuse any glare in the photos.
The starting bid is "well" below the original cost of compiling this great collection!
This item came from a collector that kept his coins, stamps and albums in pristine condition. This is important because "with collectibles, condition is what matters most".
