Achilles - Hector - Athena, greek pottery replica
    Hand-painted exact
    replica
    of an ancient
    greek
    red-figure
    crater
    depicting
    Achilles
    ,
    Hector
    and the goddess
    Athena
. A timeless and unique souvenir from Greece!
The crater, a large vase used for the dilution of wine with water in Ancient Greece, depicts the famous combat between Achilles, the Greek warrior, and the Trojan prince, Hecror. According to Homer's epic poem
    Iliad
, the Trojan War between the city of Troy and the Achaeans (Greeks) lasted ten years. The war waged against the city of Troy by a coalition of Greek kingdoms after Paris of Troy took Helen from her husband Menelaus, king of Sparta.
Hector was the the first-born son of King Priam and Queen Hecuba, brother of Paris and married to Andromache. He was the greatest warrior of Troy and lost his life to Achilles.
The scene:  after chasing Hector around the wall of Troy for a while, Achilles manages to catch him with the help of goddess Athena, who tricked Hector into stop running and fight Achilles face to face. Hector accepts his fate and faces Achilles in battle. Wanting to go down fighting, he charges at Achilles with his only weapon, his sword, but misses. Hector, being a proud warrior, begs Achilles not to spare his life but to treat his body with respect after killing him. Achilles then kills Hector and drags his corpse behind his chariot, as revenge of the death of his best friend Patroclus, who was killed by Hector.
